Been up since 4 am, fantasizing about deserts and camels and travel bags made of old Moroccan rugs. Dream on Agnes, dream on. Well, you know what they say, there's not much to do but to bury a man when the last of his dreams is dead*. I did have coffee too and I also saw the sun rise, then the world woke up and it was time to get on with reality and conquer a rather long day.
Sometimes getting home this late just makes me wanna skip the whole teeth brushing and make-up-removing-protocol all together and hit the sack in my filthy clothes. But when I put the kettle on as I go freshen up, when I dim the lights as I slip into my robe, when I put on some sitar music while I make Geoff a snack and myself a cup of exotic tea, the evening becomes a universe of possibilities and a sea of promises.
Until next time.
Agnes

EDIT: And I just realized it's Easter -- Happy Easter everyone.

You have such a way with words Agnes. Beautiful post.

Sounds like you know how to relax the right way after a long day. You've inspired me to give your ideas a try the next time I want to and generally succeed in skipping the whole getting ready for bed routine :)

Wow you really know how to beat the stress at the end of the day! :)
Posted by: Mehreen | April 02, 2010 at 01:00 AM
WOW! You just make me want April to fly past so I can be back with my husband and wind down the day together with him just as you do with Geoff.

Hi,
I agree with Heather - you do have a way with words.
Keep it up!
and your indian connection does excite us - the indian readers of your blog : ))
so what/who were you listening on sitar ?
i too put up instrumental music generally in the mornings (and dance!)
Cheers...

I surprise myself as well when in spite of feeling tired while coming back from somewhere & entering the lift into the building, just as I enter the house, there is something that makes me feel so fresh and ready to spend next few hours doing things around or just surf the net.. .
you really add musical charm to your words and experiences.. i think thats why we love reading u :)
have a great time.

had those days....when you have the world rising in front of you....while you hit the bed ........
you may be tired ....but someone others freshness can induce that into you too.....and the day becomes.....beautiful

Great. I like your quote better than Carruth's "evening becomes a universe of possibilities and a sea of promises."
Posted by: bd | April 02, 2010 at 07:09 AM
@Raji: Most of my sitar iTunage is by Nikhil Banerjee. And of course Ravi Shankar.

I love it how you write, there's a certain kind of 'rhythm' to your words. It's soothing :)

I want to know what sort of exotic tea you made, Agnes ??? Happy Easter to you and your family - love Kate

Agnes; I was introduced to Indian music at a very early age. Three movies called The Apu Trilogy changed my life," Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), Aparajito (The Unvanquished), and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu).
These were creations by director Satyajit Ray and Ravi Shankar on sitar was introduced to my life. I soon found Ali Akbar Khan on sarod and Alla Rocca on tabla. I've been with them all ever since. Happy Easter to those who celebrate it. Agnes, your remark about dreams is so profound and I'm convinced dreams are the building blocks of our lives. Love you.

Agnes: Of course, Ravi Shankar is THE Ultimate in sitar. You may be surprised that I never got to hear him live in all these years, till recently, when i heard him live in an open park in Delhi, along with Anoshka his daughter. The experience is obviously beyond words! It is so very amazing to see him play at this age!
and you know, the artists i respect, i like to touch their feet after the performance as they are charged with divinity at that time. It was a huge huge crowd but since i wanted, i got a chance to reach upto stage and touch his feet after the performance and he blessed me! wow!
but can i recommend someone to you - someone i hear almost everyday, someone whose music simply makes me dance - and he is Prem Joshua. I call myself his biggest fan. A german who spent 18 yrs in india, learnt indian ragas, sitar, flute and then under the influence of Osho, created soe wonderful (fusion) music. Try "Desert visions" or "Taranga" or "Sky kisses Earth" or "Mudra"....
and it is interesting to see Geoff's interest in (and knowledge of)Indian music!
you both must be indians in your last birth : )))

They sell old Moroccan rugs in the village in the hills, just 30 minutes drive from here. If I had it all to do again, we'd have built a house inland, in the middle of the olive trees, rather than on the Costa.
But yesterday I discovered the water is no longer icy and my memory of the scaly things touching me has sufficiently dimmed that I think I will go swimming again - just as soon as the holiday weekend has ended and the tourists have cleared out.
That sounds like a wonderful evening ritual.

I liked the part "And I just realized it's Easter" :)

I'd rather watch the world go to sleep than to wake up that early. Although I get your point, it is quite magic but... I'm not a morning person!

Happy Easter to you, too !!!
